The third album from Jason Riley on Innerthump Records is a set of American spirituals dedicated to Wyatt Park Christian Church in St. Joseph, MO. Spirit of Things was recorded in celebration of the arrival of the Riley’s first child and released shortly after in 2003.
Newly stylized arrangements of familiar hymns and early American spirituals sit along side a revamped ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring‘ and an original Riley tone poem ‘Tones for Peace and Gratitude‘ constructed with overdubs of pure feedback. |
